what is bounce rate in google analytics ?

Bounce rate is a way to measure how interested someone is in visiting a website.

The higher the bounce rate, the more likely it means that someone was not satisfied with what they found on your site.

And therefore, they don’t want to come back. Understanding bounce rate can help you improve the user experience on your website.

How Bounce Rate Effects Ranking? Does it really affect Ranking??

How bounce rate effects ranking

Well, I personally do not think that bounce rate effects ranking directly !!!

But google may be used it as a ranking factor indirectly.

In fact :

one industry study found that Bounce Rate was closely correlated to first page Google rankings.

Why I Think that Google May be Using Bounce Rate Indirectly as a Ranking Factor ?

Because, we knows that google focuses on user experience the most.

And google strongly rank those websites, which gives the best user experience and satisfaction to the users.

Google recently announced that RankBrain is Google’s third most Ranking signal. And google rankbrain actually works great.

Well, If you don’t know what google rank brain is? And how it works? Then read this definitive guide for Google rank brain

Well a Short Guide for Google Rank Brain is:

Google rank brain is machine learning (AI) algorithm, which ranks websites according to user’s satisfaction and user experience.

So, the Google’s Rank brain purely focus on users experience and satisfaction on a website.

And then ranks the website.

So, Lets come to the main point “Why I Think that Google May Use Bounce Rate Indirectly as a Ranking Factor ?”

if our website’s bounce rate was high, then it means that users that are comes on our site was not satisfied and left our website after 5 or 6 seconds.

Does rank brain uses Bounce rate or not?

So, when google Rank Brain See this !!!!

Then our website may got negative ranking !!!!  because we fails to satisfy the user that comes on our site.

And the website which has low bounce rate, which means users sticks to their sites for  1 or

2 Minutes, Then Google rank brain may rank that site on #1 Position. Because it satisfies the user.

So, May be Google RankBrain Uses the bounce rate to find user satisfaction or experience on a webpage or other factors ( like CTR, Conversions, engagement time, etc,)

So, thats why I believes that google may be use bounce rate indirectly.

But again , I am telling you that, I am not sure about that and Google never tells or announces about using bounce rate as an ranking factor

Bounce Rate VS Exit Rate?

Exit Rate:

What is exit rate

Well Here is the definition :

it is “A statistic in web analytics that refers to the percentage of visitors to a website that exits from the website by clicking out of the browser window instead of navigating to another page on the website.

In other words,

if you have 5 visitors today and 4 of them clicked away from your site, then the site has an exit rate of 80%.

TuesdayNew Visitor→ Lands on → Homepage→ Views any Post→  Exit
WednesdayNew Visitor→ Lands on → Homepage→Contact Us Page→  Exit
ThursdayNew Visitor→ Lands on → Homepage→ Exit
FridayNew Visitor→ Lands on → Homepage→ About Us page→  Exit
SaturdayNew Visitor→ Lands on → Homepage→ services Page→  Exit

Out of above 6 sessions, there are only 2 has bounce rate, Which has red marked.

Bounce rate occurs only on Monday and Thursday because visitors exit immediately after Landing on home page.

While other sessions, Visitors landed on homepage and visits at least two pages.

Well, Exits occurs on all days, but bounces occur only on 2 days…. Monday and thursday.

Well here will be the Google analytics Reports:

For these six sessions, the following Google Analytics report would be produced.

  • HOME PAGE: 3 entrances | 3 page views | 33% bounce rate | 33% exit rate
  • PRODUCT PAGE: 0 entrances | 2 page views | 0% bounce rate | 50% exit rate
  • CONFIRMATION PAGE: 1 entrance | 2 page views | 0% bounce rate | 50% exit rate
